School, stress, soul, and soil...

It's 10:00 on a Friday evening and I've just finished an evening of homework. As we're down to the last 3 1/2 weeks of class I can feel everything picking up speed. Next week I have an 18-20 page Systematic Theology paper due that has only 3 pages written thus far; I anticipate some late nights in the week to come. Then I have a few more case presentations and all the wrap up integration papers and evaluations for my 3 practicums. This is all in addition to my regular class work, practicum hours at the hospital, and meeting with directees. AHHH!!!

I was recently introduced to a book called "The Power of Pause" by Terry Hershey. In his introduction he shares a story about an American traveler who went on an African safari and asked a local tribe to carry his supplies and be his guide. After 3 days of intense travel the tribesmen who were with him refused to move. When the traveler got upset and asked why they were wasting time they responded, "We're waiting for our souls to catch up with our bodies."

Every once in a while I need a break to allow my soul to catch up. Getting my hands into the soil and tending my plants has been a necessary time-out from the stress of school. Can't wait to get into my garden in a few weeks. The garden plot is all ready to go!

I'd encourage you to check out more on the Power of Pause.
