The Water Buffalo Song

Dr. Archibald: Stop it. Stop! Stop right this instant! What do you think you're doing?! You can't say everybody's got a water buffalo when everybody does NOT have a water buffalo!



(Dr. Archibald, cont'd) We're going to get nasty letters saying, "Where's my water buffalo? Why don't I have a water buffalo?" And are you prepared to deal with that? I don't think so! Just stop being so silly!

Well, at least Cara and I have a water buffalo. I've been soaked at work the last 3 days.

We had to remove the incorrect sign lettering and put up the new lettering - FYI: that lettering is 0.7 degrees straight.

Wide open spaces...

I just returned from a week on the Canadian prairies. My friend Andrea and I flew from Chicago to Winnipeg last Saturday. We were warmly received by a very excited Carrie and Timbits.

Andrea had never been to Manitoba before so we took a day to tour Winnipeg.



After lunch at the Conservatory we wandered through the Sculpture and English gardens at Assiniboine Park.



The road to Hudson Bay...

On Tuesday I drove from Altona to Hudson Bay to see my family. The clouds were amazing! I always know that I'm getting close to home when I enter the forest, and I also knew I was getting close to home when I met an old school bus on the road that was painted green, converted into a camper and had "Hillbilly Hilton" written across the front ;-)

My dad built two wood strip kayaks so we took them out to Ruby lake for a paddle.

I floated away from the dock without my paddle!

Dad had to come and rescue me!

For some reason Niki wasn't up to getting in the water ;-)




I spent two days in Hudson Bay before making the 8 hour trek back to Altona on Friday.

Yesterday Carrie, Andrea and I drove the remainder of the 16 hours back to Elkhart. MAP

It was a good but quick trip, and it is so nice to have my roommate back. In fact, as I sit here playing on my blog she's cooking me supper :-)

Now that's a weed...

Cara and I were eager to pull this weed. I've never seen one of these get so big. The stalk must have been about 1.5-2" in diameter.

This makes me smile. Just for the record, I love my job!

For those of my blog readers who are not on Facebook, I thought I'd share a few uploads from today via Cara's camera phone.



In Nate's words, "Why do people always call maintenance when there are dead things on campus!" Yup, that's a dead seagull up on the roof. Do we call that "roof kill?"



I think this might be one of the best summer crew shots of all time.

Cara and I were moving pallets of stuff around in the barn today when one of the pallets got stuck on the forks. We tried everything we could think of to get it off, even ramming into a tree with the pallet but nothing worked, that is, until Cara got out the sledgehammer. A sledgehammer can fix a multitude of problems.



My go at the sledgehammer. Not nearly as impressive as Cara's work, but I did manage to bust the cement urns so that we could throw them in the dumpster.
