A student's pride and joy...

You can learn a lot about a person by looking at their bookshelf. There's a history housed on a bookshelf that points to where one has come from, and where one currently is, and perhaps those books that haven't been cracked yet but I have every intention of reading some day suggest a future. I've been fascinated to watch my own personal library develop. First, on the top shelf I've got my spiritual direction, spirituality, and Gestalt Pastoral Care section. Then I've got my substantial psychology and counselling section from my undergrad days on the second shelf (not all my psych textbooks are on this shelf!). Below that I've got a small selection of my doula books, my pastoral counselling texts, and my chaplaincy handbooks. On the bottom shelf pictured here I've got a smattering of Bible and theology texts, as well as worship resources and a very, very small section of fiction. Since Carrie and I share a lot of books more of my history resides on her shelves. Some of my collection is stored in my study carol in the library, while the remainder of it is packed away in storage back in Manitoba. So that's a little bit of my history via books. (Now if only I could remember everything I've read!)

So true. If I could remember all that I've read... wow. Sadly I can read a book a month later and it's something totally new.

My sister and I were just debating the best way to organize books on the shelf. She just did her shelves by color. But before they were by topic. I prefer to organize by Author's last name. It means that I have memoirs mixed with historical theology, but I just don't know what to do with some of those books that are in more than one category, or don't fit into any category... So I go with author.
