Vision...

Yesterday evening Carrie and I broke out of our monotonous Friday evening homework regime and went to the University of Notre Dame to take in the sole Indiana showing of "Vision: From the Life of Hildegard von Bingen". I first learned of Hildegard last semester and was so intrigued by her that I wrote about this mystic, visionary and prophet for my History of Christian Spirituality paper. She was so much more - a musician, practitioner of natural medicine, teacher, magistra, and revolutionary. One thing I loved about this film is that they portrayed her as very human and in no way perfect, even given her extraordinary gifts.

I was pleasantly surprised that the theatre was filled and it was intriguing to be in an auditorium with such a wide variety of people - from monks to students of music - who were all drawn together by this 11th century woman.
