Yesterday I began my job on the summer crew. Myself and one other student have been given all the lawn mowing responsibilities for the summer. LOVE IT! He gets the big tractor with the 15' mower and I get to run the two smaller tractors. My co-workers on the admissions team told me that when they saw me on the mower in the morning I was glowing and looked very relaxed compared to my state last week as I was racing to the end of the semester. So I spent seven hours on the mower yesterday, and then went home with a nasty headache and threw-up (too much information?). I got heat stroke! I don't think I've ever had heat stroke before and I thought I had taken the necessary precautions, wearing a hat when the sun came out and drinking lots of water, but the heat (27C) and humidity was too much for this prairie girl. Anyway, a good night's sleep and I was ready to go again this morning. Today I mowed and then planted many, many flowers.
What has been most intriguing to me is how many people have had to do a double-take when they see me on the tractor (and today I dressed the part with overalls and all). I guess they've only ever seen me in my student and perhaps my admissions roles. I feel like a bit of a "jack-of-all-trades" ("master of none," as my dad would say).
